Colour Egg is a food design project that focusses on the combination of colour, taste and texture.
The egg is known as a symbol for new life or a rebirth. Hence why this symbol is often associated with Easter. The presentation of this project is also a direct reference to Hella Jongerius’ Misfit project as she is one of the designers I look up to.
The flavour combinations are painted on the exterior of the egg with different types of fruit syrups. When you pick up one of these eggs the first thing you do is lick it, this way the participant experiences flavour in another way they’re used to.
As you proceed the next thing you do, is peel the egg as you would normally do so. The egg reveals a vanilla sponge cake with a granola along with specks of gold.  The cake topping is a combination of fruit and a complimentary herb.
USED SYRUPS | Purple: Cassis | Red: Raspberry | Orange: Orange | Dark orange: Passion fruit | Yellow: Lemon | Light green: tonic | Dark green: Mint
TOPPING COMBINATION | Strawberry and basil | Orange and mint | Blueberry and Mint
Colour Egg shows that there are other options to be considered when thinking about eating or consuming our food.
